People do not have equal opportunities across Europe. There are minor or major differences between different areas, which are slowing down, or even halting, the creation of a common, Europe-wide society, in which borders are not barriers. We should strive for eliminating differences, involving every young person in Europe on equal terms, but also in a wider perspective, building a common Europe. Unfortunately, there are still political barriers on the way to a full integration. AEGEE already treats all its member organisations equally, no matter which part of Europe they come from, but we expect the same from other entities involved in building the future of Europe. Within the past 25 years AEGEE managed to bring together western countries with Central Europe. Later on, AEGEE expanded to the East. Today, young people should be the leaders who will bring Eastern Europe to the same status quo with the rest of Europe. Be the ones that will make the political and mental change.
Working in the same direction as the European Union, within the framework of the Eastern Partnership Programme, gives us a unique and one-in-a-lifetime opportunity of coordinating our activities with a broader, political initiative, which makes the timing ideal to maximise the impact of our efforts. Joining forces within our Network, with Institutions, Governments and with the Civil Society, we will strive for a change that will make Europe never look back, and never look like it does till today.
Main goals of the Eastern Partnership project till the end of the year 2013 are:
1. Promote political awareness about EaP (countries) in non-EaP countries
- Panel sessions/discussions with embassies, permanent representations, etc.
- Action Days
- Articles and discussion on recent happenings
2. Promote European values in EaP countries
- Bus ride. Cooperation with organization in Ukraine. Summer 2013. Providing a platform for dialogue. Meet other NGOs and young people in the region. Possible Visegrad foundation.
- Election Observer Mission
3. Closing Conference
Brussels. Checking the results of the project activities.
The Project is promoting European values to the Eastern Partnership countries countries, under which we understand:
- Civil society
- Human rights
Of course these values are quite broad. Depending on the event that will be organized, it can be focused on different things, for example:
- Mobility (visa freedom)
- Non-formal learning
- Voluntary work
